I awoke this morning with a feeling of peace. It was eerie. My coffee maker emitted a familiarly delicious aroma. My eyes crusted over with the dust of sleep would not function properly until the first cup of rejuvenation had been ingested. I stumbled from my room down the long green carpeted hallway, Cursing the day from under my breath. The sunshine danced happily across the floating speckles in the air and leaped from the window sill to the carpeted living space. Somethings should be forced to wait until the afternoon, I thought.

I ransacted the cupboard for my cool black mug, and moved religiously towards the maker of the sweet brown nectar of gods. The kitchen linoleum was chilly. This is an odd occurence in the summer. I tripped over my wifes cat who had been rummaging through some of my old college papers. The gray dwarf cat would knock assorted books and papers from my bookshelf in order to get the safer high ground. She must have thought, I was a beast in the morning.I was within reach of the soothing steamy beverage when a knock came at the door. Damn it, I thought, it has to be someone looking for an ass-whoopin. It had to have been fifteen minutes shy of 8 a.m. This was it. But, I paused and composed myself. I could not be an upstanding individual to go to the door and unleash the early morning "me" upon the world without my trusty cup-o-joe.

The unwitting visitor would simply have to hold-their-horses. The comfort of warm delicious coffee...ah...better life through chemicals. A repetitious thump-thump-thump at my front door again. This was about to get ugly, and not the normal kind of ugly. This was about to get really "UGLY"...

Thump-thump-thump. Thump-thump-thump. The door was about to bust from the excessive beating it had taken. Oh yeah, I thought, this is an ass-whoopin. I sipped my brown beverage and motioned ever-so-slowly to
the front door."Hang on, just a damned minute." I stuttered. "It's important!" shouted the person on the other side of the door."It had better be," I said. I fumbled at the chain lock, and worked my way to the dead-bolt. The door lock was my last endeavor.

(few days later) "Open up! this is the police!" sirens sound out side the house. "Chief he is not opening the door shall we use force?" a young recruit asked with a nervous voice. "Yea what the hell break it down" the chief said with a small smile as he gestured to some other officers. "bang!" a loud thud as the door fell flat and the officers ran in guns aimed and ready for fire.. but when they walked into the hall they were horrified at what they saw.(to be continued...)
