The Well

Devils Dad

19 May, 2012 10:38 AM

I know this true story from my friend in the neighbors, Anna who faced this horrific incident along with her parents. Anna was seven years old when her father Mr. Alan got a promotion and they had to re-locate to this small town was known for its beautiful scenery. The company gave Mr. Alan a new house by the lake in a quiet area off road. There was one strange thing; the house had a well in the backyard which they thought was justified as the house was a bit old but why would you need a well when you had the lake? It made no sense. They were all excited about the new place and their new house and Mr. Alan about his new post. It had been a week after they had shifted and settled down when Anna heard some voices calling her name. The location of their... [Read More]

On the Verge of Death

Demorgorgon

04 Nov, 2016 03:03 PM

My heart was pounding as I bolted uphill. I began to pant in fear. The shadows of the trees lurked into the darkness, and the wind growled and slammed cold blasts of air upon me. My thighs got heavier each step, but I couldn't give up because she was right behind me. I stumbled on every rock I encountered and my body wanted to give up. Her growl echoed in the darkness as she flapped her wings and took flight. I knew why she was after me, and she wasn't going to give up until she gets what she wants. The further I went, the closer she got. The wind blew even harder trying pushing me back, but this time the spooky trees joined in as well. Mud splashed all over my legs and it was raining cats and dogs. I bolted further up the hill but tiredly collapsed as... [Read More]

The Squire's Ghost

Borloff

26 Sep, 2013 03:20 PM

The Squire's Ghost Perhaps the truth is better left untold, it could haunt you for the rest of your life...but I shall tell it anyway! A young man has been seen to wander around these parts. He keeps himself to himself and never seems to bother anyone. His favourite haunt, (if haunt be the word most appropriate), seems to be by the pond at the south end of the estate. People have heard splashing there when the water has been calm and no one else is around. Many say it's the ghost of Jenny, a girl of about 16 years who drowned there at the turn of the 20th century. The young man, who goes by the name of Thomas, is well known to the locals. He is the son of one of the more regarded parishioners. His father is none other than the Reverened James Morris, minister to the... [Read More]

This man of white

Kimberley Chapman

02 Apr, 2013 12:46 AM

Robes of the silkiest satin. The softest shade of blue you could ever imagine gently protects his ginger hands. Skin like mocha perfection, yet smooth and yielding. The strongest green eyes; they made me feel like I was looking into a spyglass at the greenest meadows of Spring. Long smoky lashes billow around them, framing them amazingly. His perfectly chiseled cheekbones make him a very gorgeous character indeed. Short spiked black hair that seemed to scream sophistication completed the look. White as snow, he glowed with such radiance that you could almost swear he was an angel just by looking at him. Then suddenly, he pulls his robes off to show his entire outfit. On his hip he has a set of (obviously freshly sharpened) daggers in an oblong sheath strapped in place. He wears white dress slacks and a long sleeve button down dress shirt un-tucked with a loose... Reality Of The Mindless

Brody Battersby

Some say using big words are just ineffective, useless, demeaning, and plainly idiotic. I, myself, enjoy the use of longer words. Like serene, idiotic, scrupulous, and others such as those. But, when making a point one must not use language that another cannot comprehend. As such, when arguing or stating facts, one does not exaggerate their vocabulary to heights of which the other cannot see, hear, or process. A police officer does not come to a house and say: “Madame, I do regret to dispose of your heavenly evening but your daughter is farther and passed as she can get”. They say it how the fact is, “Your daughter is dead”. But a writer writes in elegant hand and exposes the words like a painting of rhymes, metaphors, and insatiable critique. Thus, when reading a poem to a passed loved one, one must choose to be as elegant as a... [Read More]

Scratches

2:00 A.M. Have you ever had the feeling that you are never alone in your room? Something awake and breathing in the corner, or a breeze from your closet creaking slowly open, the abysmal void of darkness filling your room space, but never the sight of an entity that you imagine to be tall, made of petrified hands, its eyes being as bright as an old flashlight? Have you ever been so scared in your life, that you’ve had your entire body itch like you've rolled in fiberglass, sweat coming from all sides like you've been in a sauna for several hours, your body shaking so hard like you're outside naked in a blizzard, you start to cry, hoping you'll fall asleep, but the tears just won’t let you? Well that night was something else. My queen sized bed, tightly tucked into the back of the room, is somewhat comfortable... [Read More]

The ReAwakening

DC Martin

The first time I heard it, I thought it was just the house settling, either that or I had dreamt it. I was about half asleep, lying across the bed, boots still on my feet; half clothed, I had slept where I’d fell. A half empty can of Budweiser beer sat on the mock oak end table next to the bed; a beady layer of sweat now it's own makeshift koozy. The sound that had pulled me from my sweet abyss was a cross between the sound of someone trying to kick in my front door and the sound you hear when you head butt a soccer ball. I got up and turned down the television, Jay Leno was doing his monologue and laughing at his own jokes as usual, so I did not mind one bit decreasing the volume. I made my way to the window and looked out... [Read More]

MIDNIGHT WRESTLING

Robin Ray

08 Oct, 2017 11:17 PM

“Pain favors the unfortunate but love favors the strong.” For some unknown reason, those words echoed in Lorenzo ‘Ren’ Castile’s mind as he stood at the stainless steel paring table hacking pigs into manageable cuts on a walnut board with a cleaver. Wearing shiny, black, padded leather boots and a thick, black, plastic apron, the burly 24-year-old butcher’s apprentice had been standing on his feet in the huge windowless freezer working for hours. The naked bodies of dead bovines and domestic pigs dangled from hooks everywhere in the cold metallic stall. His boss had given him the assignment of preparing the hogs for some impressive barbecue involving big shot actors and politicians over at the Waldorf Astoria. Was Ren invited to the shindig? Of course not. Why would anyone invite a high school dropout with a criminal record like his to such an impressive black tie event? Ren knew from... [Read More]

Demon

Kate

10 Dec, 2012 03:14 AM

Red eyes watched the victim crawl in an attempt to flee, the female demon walked behind her victim. Her black leather boots tapping the stone floor she walked on. Her black glossy hair blew in the wind coming from an open window; her short black dress with ruffles on the bottom had blood stains on it. Her white horns poked out of her hair and gleamed in the light of the moon, her pale skin seemed to glow in the moonlight. She continued to chase after her victim, lightly giving her grey wings a flap to scare him. The cowering man tired tipping things over and throwing things to slow her down but it didn’t work, whenever he would do so she would either chop the item in half with her weapon or she would use her black tail to catch it and throw it aside. Finally the female demon... [Read More]

Dire Consequences

Nathanael

03 Dec, 2014 08:17 PM

It was a cold and rather bleak afternoon. The sun wasn't present nor was its’ warmth and all that you could see in the sky was clouds. I remember the school bus stopping three houses down from mine and the bus doors opening with a slight creek like that of an old wooden door in a rather aged home. I had gotten up out of my seat and grabbed my back pack with both hands which caused me to wobble a bit as I walked through the aisle of the bus toward the exit. I noticed the faces of the fellow passengers and for a second admired the differences of each individual and the unique expressions each one possessed. I usually don’t talk like that to people though for people think I over analyze or take simple things to a much further level than things ever should be brought down... [Read More]
