My sanctuary

Sanctuary

Your pulse racing
Like a drum behind your ears,
Mind conjuring pain,
Mind conjuring fear.

Limbs of lead,
Breath of flame,
You know this is the end,
You know you’re to blame.

Cold in heart,
Cold in blood,
It was your fault,
It was your sin.

This is your fight,
A fight you can’t win.
An obstacle you can’t scale
A foe you can’t flee
Follow the dark
There you will find me.

Rest here, my love
And loved you’ll be
Safe from your past
Safe from your crime.
Sleeping for the rest of time.

I love this poem a lot! It hits home for me, as it seems to reflect my personal shortcomings, my haughty arrogance for the world, and the quest to find somewhere and/or someone who accepts all of that.
