Disappointment.

Pride Ed

like when I saw them
 falling.
 Shot out of the sky,
 gun still shooting astral wings,
 smoke still churning from the barrel,
 and I hate that I see it linger
 longer than the last breath they inhale.

A child breathes that air.
 That air means
 gas to those useless
 childhood thoughts;
 nothing but fairy-tales for the weak,

      who suffocate with pressed hands,
      beaned knees...

 And I never understood how that
 worked until I pulled the trigger;

      the gunshot that woke me up.
